Mat-Su District Cooperative Extension agent Julie Cascio will teach six food preservation classes in Palmer this spring, beginning March 2.
The classes will meet Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 208 of Kerttula Hall at the Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center. All classes will include a lab in which participants practice canning, making jellies, pickling or dehydrating foods.
The classes are:
- Food Preservation Basics and Jellied Products, March 2
- Canning Low Acid Food: Fish, March 9
- Boiling Water Canner: Fruits and Tomatoes, March 16
- Canning Low Acid Food: Meats and Vegetables, March 30
- Pickles and Sauerkraut, April 6
- Dehydrating Fruits and Vegetables, April 13
Each class costs $20. Anyone who attends all six classes may become a master food preservation volunteer.
